Parts of our target neighborhoods lie outside city limits and thus lack trash pickup. Families in poverty or below the ALICE threshold cannot afford to pay extra, so trash tends to pile up in the yard or in nearby woods. Working with local residents and other volunteers, we've sponsored workdays to tackle the trash issue. These workdays have made an enormous difference, not only for individual families, but for the appearance of entire neighborhoods. That makes a big improvement in the level of hope that residents have in the future!
If you, your congregation, or your company would like to volunteer for one of these cleanup days, contact Kevin Gebhart at 318.528.9776. This makes a great team-building opportunity for companies and other groups, and it's a great ministry opportunity for congregations.
