Financial Stability

United Way is advancing the common good by establishing needed programs to help families achieve financial stability.

Our Financial Stability Roundtable, made up of local bankers and financial experts, oversees efforts such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  This past year our staff and volunteers were certified by the IRS to prepare basic income tax returns at no charge for over 200 lower-income households.  Many were senior citizens on fixed incomes; this program saved Cenla residents thousands of dollars in fees alone.  In addition, our clients received over $90,000 in tax refunds for the 2016 filing year.

To extend our impact, the Roundtable sponsors workshops for case managers in local agencies, training them to help their clients with financial problems.  A total of 35 agency case managers have attended the training so far.

We’re working now with other partners to develop a Financial Success Center that can provide financial counseling, help with credit repair, and other services.
